Project Bookshelf:  For the past 14 years, the Friends have partnered with Mankato’s Santa Anonymous program to bring the magic of books to children who are less fortunate.

The project provides books to children of families who are financially struggling in the Mankato area during the holiday season. The Friends of the Deep Valley Libraries volunteer to help select two brand new age-appropriate books for the children. They also help distribute the books to the parents at the designated site.

There will be many volunteer opportunities for this event, hauling books, setting up, cleaning up and helping parents pick out books. To volunteer, please call Lindsay Mollberg at 625-8155. Dates have not been determined beyond two days in December - check back for the actual dates.

Approximately 2,000 books were given to over 1,000 children!  This is a worthy project that introduces many children to reading who otherwise would not be able to afford to buy a book. It is also a project that requires greater funding each year. Several local businesses donated books, including MidAmerica Publishing, Usborne Books, Barnes and Noble Booksellers, and the Betsy-Tacy Society.  Thrivant Financial for Lutherans provided matching funds for money raised to purchase books.  Donations are accepted anytime of the year.
